Join us for a conversation with Farzana Doctor about her new book 52 Weeks to a Sweeter Life.
Attend a live reading and conversation with author Farzana Doctor, who discusses her new book 52 Weeks to a Sweeter Life. Presented by the Cancer Assistance Program.
Farzana is interviewed by Dr. Alan Taniguch, Assistant Clinical Professor at McMaster University and Program Director of McMaster's Family Medicine Palliative Care Residency Program. The 45-minute conversation is followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer period. Before the event, check out the HPL catalogue to borrow the book. Epic Books will be on-site selling books for signing after the event.
As an activist, community organizer and social worker, Farzana has preached self-care to hundreds of people struggling with burnout and exhaustion. But for years, she couldn’t manage to take her own advice. She knew many other helpers and activists were the same: they struggled to escape the cycle of overwork, being overwhelmed, and recovering. 52 Weeks to a Sweeter Life is a workbook that speaks directly to these people — and anyone struggling to pause, set boundaries and centre their needs.
The Cancer Assistance Program is a community-based, not-for-profit organization offering free services for individuals and families affected by cancer living in the greater region of Hamilton and surrounding communities.

The first Hamilton Public Library building opened on September 16, 1890 by the Earl and Countess of Aberdeen on the north side of Main Street West. In 1913, a new main library opened. This building was replaced in 1980 by Central Library, at the current location on York Boulevard.
In 2010, Central Library re-opened after approximately 18 months of renovations. Central Library opened with a newly revitalized first floor, which includes a Community Living Room that takes advantage of natural light. The Ontario Library Association honoured Central in 2012 with an Architectural and Design Transformation award.
