Jason Allen, author of 52 Things to Do in Hamilton: The Insider's Guide to Fun in the Hammer, shares his favourite festivals, events, nature hikes and activities to do solo, with friends, or with the family.
Jason Allen has lived in Hamilton with his family for 20 years. He has spent much of that time scouring the city for things to do and ways to keep his kids occupied. Jason has lived in Calgary, Guelph, Toronto, Buffalo, Los Angeles and Reno, and would trade any of them for Hamilton. Jason works as an outdoor educator and adult learning course designer. He also writes for local publications about the city and the environment. He lives in the west end with his wife, two adult sons and a cat.

The Terryberry Branch was built on land once owned by William Terryberry and his wife Anne Young, who came to Upper Canada circa 1806. Prior to the War of 1812, William Terryberry owned an inn that was a popular stopover for travellers making the trip from Niagara to Ancaster. In January 1970, Terryberry Branch was the third branch to open on Hamilton Mountain. The Branch was renovated in 1990-91, to include a second floor with expanded collection space, as well as a larger and improved reading and study space. Terryberry Branch was most recently renovated in 2012.
